This is specifically a thread for NVSL. unlike other leagues, NVSL Divisionals is not a scored meet.


Yeah it doesn’t make any difference to the team. The coach will guide when the kid has a shot of making all stars, but other than that there is no maximizing of outcomes.

In my opinion, coaches should guide but not choose in the event a swimmer is top of ladder is more than 2 events. If a swimmer has a better chance of making all stars in one event over another, the coach should point that out to help inform the decision, but it’s not their call. I’ve seen instances where a coach chooses events in this situation to create openings for others swimmers and/or pressures a swimmer to make certain choices for this reason. I don’t think that’s appropriate, so I do think thr swimmer makes the final call.

I’m surprised there were empty lanes. I do think the divisional lanes can be kind of random. Eg at an a meet the coach is maximizing points. So maybe the kid on the top of the ladder usually swims back and fly, but they really want to swim free,so now there are two fly spots open. (Bc kid gets to pick for divisionals). As noted by another poster often Im goes unfilled, but occasionally this doesn’t work. Eg my kid was 3rd in I’m this year and fully expected to get one of the I’m spots, but both kids above kid chose to swim I’m.

There are many people on our team willing to be team rep. Unfortunately our current team rep is a power hungry narcissist who refuses to give up any semblance of control on the team. As a result, the team - and kids suffer.


Different poster, same issue. Our team has no mechanism to replace the rep.

There is a setting in SwimTopia that allows Coaches/Reps to set meet entries but not publish them to the team. Your Reps must not know how use that setting -- we don't publish our entries for A Meets until they are finalized and the email has gone out to our team.


Same PP. Everything in my app is still marked "unpublished" when I can do this. So yes, it might be user error. Interested to know whether this works for others.

That’s crazy! Most teams send out entries by Wed to confirm availability before submitting to division. Then division meets Wednesday or Thursday night.

I assume coaches have talked to kids so kids know what they are swimming?

Is there a chance your kid isn’t swimming and they only sent to those swimming?


Coaches have talked with my kid Monday/Tuesday. Kid is definitely swimming divisionals as they are top 2 in several events on the ladder. Communication just poor about divisionals this year compared to other years.
