The bottom line up front is that there have been several students and parents that have walked away midyear very very unhappy. There are a lot of other studios in the area that offer a positive, nonjudgmental and encouraging environment for young dancers. Why risk getting caught up in a toxic situation when schools like TWSB, MYB, Seber, Brown Ballerinas, Academy of Russian, Metropolitan theater, Columbia Youth Ballet, NOVA…etc…are much better options for half the price.
Oh my there is actually a studio called brown ballerinas? This seems very wrong.

Why did Pat Berrend leave for her own studio? Why did it close?
Why didn’t the school keep her and others who were actually taught by Mary Day? Julie Miles is at MYB, but was a longtime star of the company. She was also educated at academy that existed before the school as we know it.
Here’s the thing ….. a lot of these places are populated by the same people with the same background. Most of the people around here have some component of WSB or MYB training.
Lorraine, former head of CD trained at WSB. She came back in the 90s and taught modern. (She did not teach any ballet there!). Later she went on to found CD; and, now she’s back at WSB.
Just pick a place that your kid is happy and works for you in terms of money and location.
I thought Lorraine left TWSB this summer? She was a great teacher with a ton of experience. It would be really unfortunate if TWSB lost her.

I’ll give them that. But everything else about the studio is extremely toxic. Families quit midyear because of cost (outside of tuition), favoritism, burnout, and development of eating disorders. Parents and students have posted negative reviews but the owner gets them taken down. They have less than 10 kids in the entire school.

What are the other platforms you recommend reviewing?
