Golden Gate Park is huge and you can easily spend a day there and at Ocean Beach. The museums within the park are great, as are the mini parks within the park.
a teen would enjoy alcatraz; a teen wouldn't enjoy museums as much unless they are really into old art, which most teens aren't. You are looking at this through an old person's eyes, not a teen's eyes.
The academy of arts and sciences is not ‘old art’. My teen girls and boys go there on their own often.
The De Young has changing exhibits so check to see if it’s up your alley.
ok, but most teens don't enjoy going to art museums.

Get an AirBnB or a hotel outside of Union Square/mid-Market.

What’s the best way to get around SF, is public transportation fine or should we plan to Uber everywhere?
Given how things are currently in some parts of the city, which hotels do you suggest for a family if budget is open?
Aside from the Tenderloin and Castro districts, are there any additional areas we should avoid?

Rent electric bikes somewhere near Ghirardelli Square. Bike through Crissy Field and the Marina/Fort Mason to the Golden Gate Bridge. Bike over the bridge down to Sausalito. Eat lunch there, and either take the ferry back from Sausalito or bike to Tiburon and catch the ferry from there.
