Don't do this. The name is spelled Schuyler. Skylar is for illiterates.

You are incorrect. While Skylar is a variant of Schuyler, Skylar has been around since the 17th century in American and longer in the Netherlands (it's of Dutch origin). Both are acceptable. And Skylar gained a lot more popularity as Skylar Austin became more famous.

No,

No, YOU are incorrect. Schuyler is a Dutch name. At a certain point English speakers were like “golly gee, I shore do like the sound of that name, but caint possibly remember that furrin spelling! Hey, I know, let’s spell it Skyler.”

You'd pick that over Skye? How odd.

Let’s take to the sky! This puppy’s got to fly! Skye is my sister’s dog’s name. It's a great name for a dog.

Okay for a middle name, not a first name.
