Probably not- maybe the kid gets an F which is a 63% and often doesn’t really affect grades. Many teachers just skirt around the cheating issue because parents start blaming the teacher. It becomes a headache and there end up being no consequences.

How do parents blame a teacher for kids cheating? Seriously, I'm trying to get my head around this...I would flip out if my kid were caught cheating...and not at the teacher.

I had two different sets of parents yell at me about their kid cheating this year at one of the middle schools. People can suck.

Did they deny their kid cheated? Blame you for them cheating? Unacceptable either way but, again, I’m trying to get my head around this….

Parents just claim their kid didn’t cheat and you can’t prove it. Or say their kid was stressed and they get to redo it. And then keep pressing to get a redo. Parents can be enablers to kids.

Extracurriculars are a big thing. There are kids who really cool things in DC.

Ive got a kiddo who just finished 9th, im friends with a handful of parents.
We've got kids on sports, heavily involved, and **gasp** they got some B+s and A-s with their final grades - this is true for a lot of my kids cohort - did they get mostly As? yes.
But not every kid has a 4.0

The best advice we've gotten for our rising senior is that every college with lower than a 15 percent admission rate should be considered a lottery. They all have many more kids than they can admit applying with very good grades and "interesting" extra curriculars. And most kids with good grades and good ECs can buy a 1400 SAT and are applying to 10+ schools. Plan accordingly.

That was suggested but the parents really fought tooth and nail for no ranking. There was one parent in particular with an agenda but I’ll leave it at that.

If they graduated in the past few years, they started pre-pandemic. This year’s graduating class (2024) was the class that started remotely with the lax DCPS grading policies. This year’s rising juniors (class of 2025) was the first class at Walls without the test.
