If your parents invited them, or you did, they aren't moochers, they are guests. If they invited themselves they are moochers.

I don't think college kids realize how expensive it is to entertain a handful of college kids at your normal family beach house for merely 3 days. Food and booze is easily north of $1000 if not $2000 if you go out to eat a few times, depending on how much jet ski and boat use, another $1000 in petrol, inevitably something will get broken, plus all the bedding and cleanup after they leave.

The least you can do is grab a $5 thank you card in town and leave it on the counter when you leave. Apparently most kids are not taught that by their parents.

College student walking in with hard alcohol for friend's parents seems very uncouth to me. I like the recommendation of a bottle of good rose champagne because the bottle and box are pretty and every beach house owner can tuck this in a fridge and enjoy after the college guests depart.

Sweets or flowers are nice. No alcohol.

Are you hosting a college student at your beach house soon?

Flowers are so boring and uncreative.

No. Unless he's known for it and does that all the time. He should bring things he also enjoys and are within his character not try to put on fake airs with fancy bourbon and French wines from the top shelf he's never had or olive oil. This is so try hard.

No flower arrangement in a vessel since they may not have one suitable

Every beach house has vases for fresh flowers. This is an easy way to save some cash for a college kid; otherwise they have to pay additional $30 for a cheap $1 vase.

But yeah, a bottle of wine is fine. Flowers, chocolates, stick to consumables and something easy to use up and discard during a week at the beach.

How does an average 21 year old know what kind of wine to buy affluent parents?

They do what I did at that age, and walk into a wine store and go up to the person working there and say "Hi, I need to bring a bottle of wine to fancy people's house, can you recommend one? I want to spend around $30 (or whatever)."

Average worker at a wine store is making $15 an hour in a deadend job. They don’t know anything about wine. If you get some small shop owner, sure. But odds are it’s just some prole who doesn’t know a thing.
