"They picked the guy they know and like" is not corruption, it's a typical way people get jobs in the US.

I agree. This combined with the new Superintendent stating that safety is a top priority for him gives me hope.

That's likely because there's been a reorganization in the wake of Hull's departure, and the security chief will now report directly to the superintendent.

Hull's departure was part of the reorganization, not the cause of a reorganizaton. Which makes the question of why those decisions in the days before the new superintendent would come in. What don't they want Thomas Taylor to know?

Optics seem like a part of this, but this guy clearly has a lot of experience, connections, knows the laws and local issues, and can explain/approach things in a way other MCPS officials cannot.
