Of course the campaign walked back this nonsensical statement. The problem for the campaign is that they can't control what Trump says when he is in unscripted situations. He either makes up crazy stuff or riffs on something he heard from some rando. He doesn't read, he is not a thinker, he clearly doesn't retain information, he doesn't want to be told what to say or do, he thinks he's smarter than everyone, and he is experiencing cognitive decline. The campaign is going to have a hard time controlling what he says and getting him to the finish line.

Trump will barf up word salad. Biden will stutter. Supporters of both will claim victory for their candidate. Media will be so consumed with "how it played" they won't spend much time at all with what's true, feasible, or good policy.
