Every single week I keep reading more horrifying threads about all of the insane socialist crap getting pumped into the county from the council. Once interest rate decrease, we are going to seriously consider putting our starter home up for sale and peace the hell out of MoCo. It is looking dicier by the day. They already jammed through higher property taxes. Now they have more free handouts like this. The county can’t grow the economy and jobs, so where is all of this going to come from? You betcha, taxpayers.

A so-called “baby bonds” bill is being considered in Montgomery County, in which $1,800 would be invested for every child born in the Maryland county.
The Child Investment Fund would be overseen by an 13-member committee, and the funds would be available for applicants once they reach age 18.
Those eligible to draw from the funds would have to meet a number of requirements including:
Being born after Jan. 1, 2024
Being residents of Montgomery County
Payments would be based on wealth and income at the time of application
The use of the funds would also be restricted to vocational or educational expenses, ownership or investment in a business in Montgomery County, the purchase of property in the county or funding retirement investments.
Exactly, no citizenship requirements at all from the parents. Just hop the border and have 2000 kids for $1800 a pop. It wouldn't be hard to circumvent this at all. You could buy air Jordans, iPhones, etc. and make claims they're for 'school expenses'. Progressive program almost always ends up at unmitigated disasters full of bloat and waste, because the law of unintended consequences takes over after progressive morons with these ideas never account for just how sh!tty people are and how much they look to abuse the system for free cash.
I know, right? Looking nice in today's society is ONLY for the wealthy. Poor people should look poor, amirite?
You would just have to wait 18 years to see your windfall.
So they can vote in their local elections at 16, but can't be trusted with their birthright money until 18?

Not sure about your 2nd statement and how that applies. I am all for free education for all and there is really no way anyone can take advantage of going to a community college for free.
A lot of oversight doesn’t necessarily make programs more effective though. I am fine with X amount of fraud and waste because of lack of oversight or a broad cash stimulus if it’s more effective on the whole than a program with a lot of red tape. People have an outrage quotient they can’t get over though.
Also I feel like the Covid and unemployment loans worked really well? What fiasco? Obviously there was going to be fraud but that’s just cost.
