I responded ‘sorry, wrong number’. It seemed like an honest mistake.
And then the person texted ‘oh my apologies - you seem like a nice person’ followed by a photo of an attractive young woman. And a ‘do you live close by?’
Which I then blocked. Not my particular kryptonite. But there’s a lot of lonely and/or horny people out there. Send out enough messages and someone will bite.
100% this. I am embarrassed to admit that on a work trip I once catfished someone all week who pulled this with me. And I'm a straight married woman.
I started off my reply with 'thank you. my family always says I am too trusting. and handsome....' and it went from there. Every night I would report in to DH with how far I was getting with this dude who was pretending to be a wealthy available young woman. By day three I was texting that I was always messing up my bills/credit cards due to memory issues and s/he offered to help if I could send my credit card numbers. I agreed as I had 'a lot of money I didn't want someone to steal'... I then bought time by agreeing... but was 'not tech savvy' and proceeded to send a bunch of blurry photos of credit card images I found online and maybe a few dick picks that were actually my blurry thumb above the bathroom tiles. It was killing him/her and I was THRIVING/living my best life. It really killed a lot of time every night; I felt pretty accomplished. On the next trip I tried to keep it going but no response. *sigh.
