Gosh I loved working. I thought it was fun dressing up, wearing heels, taking the metro, eating lunch with friends, my cute little office. Sure the job wasn’t great but I was independent and making some money.

You and she are both experiencing anxiety. You're catastrophizing that she's going to be a deadbeat because she's complaining about going to work. Give her some support, be on her side, and keep your own anxiety in check.

She's not wrong. It sucks to work all summer. And then for the rest of your life.

Did she work summers? Her reaction is weird. Social anxiety?

Hopefully she will be in a role where there are other people her age, or at least in a city where there are? My rising seniors will likely be working in DC and this summer are interning in DC and getting to see the early 20s social life a bit and are super anxious to get going, get money, live on their own etc. If she's working in a job she didn't want, in a place she didn't want to be, I can imagine why that would suck, but she has to stick it out and then she can move to something else she likes once she gets work experience.

I liked my jobs in my 20s.
Fun roommates all working, training program, new city, comradarie on team projects, learned a ton, and everyone with to a client or grad school. Including me.

Sure I was minority nervous but had new roommates and apartment picked out and had talked to alums at the company before me, etc.

Being nervous is not the same as having a bad attitude.
