My kids are grown and married. I give my kids and their spouses money for birthdays and Christmas. Small amount of presents + money for grandkids.

I am an only child. My mother sent me birthday and Christmas gifts until she died when I was 50.
The next year, my godmother, her longtime friend, sent me a little cat pin for my birthday. She knew I wouldn't be getting a gift. She died the next year.

23 is still a child. In fact, young people are still juveniles until age 26.
