You are saying there is a team where a kid was say the 5th best 11-12 swimmer in an event, and they got moved up to swim in the 13-14 event over 13-14 year olds who are faster than they are? Because that seems crazy and I don’t understand how you could get away with that. Or does the team have a dearth of 13-14 year olds, so the 5th best 11-12 is faster than any of the 13-14s?

Sure did.

Our team is small. We let all kids swim whatever they want in the B meet.

Do coaches based their lineups on seed time or the latest A or B meet time?

MCSL team here too. Everything is published in the app and they send all results out and usually a ladder.

Our kids can swim the 4th stroke at a B meet (they are not allowed to place though) and IM if timing allows they give preference to the B meet swimmers - rightfully so. My son had to wait last year until the 3rd B meet to swim 4th stroke and IM last year (he was 9). He never makes time trials so those were to get him his times.

Agree with this. I have also found the MCSL coaches to be very transparent. All the times and meet results are posted (the whole team gets all an and b meet results each week). And, anyone can look at all star times on the MCSL website. So it is rare a coach does something that can’t be explained by trying to make the fastest lineup. (And if you see something strange ask politely - sometimes the software doesn’t input correctly and the coach makes a mistake).

FWIW, our coach doesn’t game meets to anticipate the opposing team. He said that is too unreliable bc you never know who will be there. He swims the fastest lineups he can run on paper and lets the chips fall.

OP should be asking these questions to their team rep or coach. Every team has different policies in mcsl.

For us, current season performance to date is what is considered. They use the ladder and the ladder starts new every season.

Is there any team using last season time other than maybe seeding a time trials?

Our division F team did this. There were some kids who could not swim time trials, some who did not even get timed during practice the week in between who got into the A meet based on last years’ performance.

We have very few of those. We used to have more that wouldn't leave, but I think with school letting out right as the season starts, and then starting back up again soon after the season ends, people travel more during the NVSL season. It is what it is, but it does leave a lot of empty lanes.

There are other kids to fill those lanes. It's great that it gives more kids a chance to swim in an A meet. After all, summer swim is supposed to be for fun.
