Even so, I bet they wouldn’t charge the graduating students and only the adults. But regardless of the consequences, this behavior is humiliating for Kennedy and MCPS. We have serious behavioral problems in our community.

A student who wasn’t supposed to graduate came up and grabbed a diploma cover. It wasn’t a big deal and the ceremony went on perfectly fine.
I have to say I feel sorry for teachers. Seems like the Wild West in some MCPS high schools. Why did MCPS think removing all disciplinary measures would somehow improve schools?

That's what PP said, nothing is going to happen.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Here is the story in Moco 360:

Adults, students, and graduates were brawling. DC police could not get to the scene due to traffic and the Secret Service responded instead.
What is wrong with people? Some of them may face criminal charges and they ruined graduation.
Don’t worry, MCPS has a plan to fix this: “ She added the school would implement restorative practices with all students with the help of Tarik Harris, a restorative justice instructional specialist with MCPS’ Department of Student Engagement, Behavioral Health and Academics.”
In other words, nothing is going to happen
No um, Restorative Justice is going to happen. What did you all expect, a SRO at the ceremonies too?
It's the same picture.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:MCPS needs to crack down on discipline.
Folks should know there is zero tolerance for this sort of behavior. It is not fair to the 95% of decent kids who just want a normal high school experience. Why does MCPS allow a small number of miscreants to run the show?
It’s hilarious that you think 95% of the kids are “decent kids who just want a normal high school experience.” You have it backwards. It’s more like 5% are decent and 95% are problematic. You clearly haven’t stepped foot inside a school in some time. This past year was a nightmare for most teachers, not just in MCPS but everywhere in the country. Parents aren’t parenting anymore. Kids have no consequences at school or at home. When phone calls are made to parents regarding their kids’ behaviors, most don’t care. That’s if they bother to give you accurate contact info in the first place. It’s really sad to witness the decline of society.
The ceremony waa lovely. Everyone was really happy. We left right after, didnt see any fight.
I would say it's more like 99% of the kids and families are not going to start fights like this. What should one do about the other 1%? Well, by "restorative justice," I hope you mean not letting the parties involved anywhere near the high school again.
It makes me really angry, having our kid's four years be such an amazing experience at Kennedy, to see a diverse high school with so many kids from so many different places do so much, and still get associated with a few violent idiots, who probably felt "disrepected" because someone shoved them in a crowd.
Didn't you read the article? They're going to have restorative conversations. That will go a long way to ensuring this kind of thing definitely happens again next year.Anonymous wrote:MCPS needs to crack down on discipline.
