Are there not regulations about when they need to transfer kids to a cot? I thought most areas required the transition happen before age 2.

I just had a 3 year old visit. Mom brought a booster with strap..said he will not stay at the table without it. Seemed like nbd. Kid accepted it and sat at the table. Worked for them.

Absolutely not. I would also consider reporting it as others have said. Clearly the ratios are not in a safe place and that is up to the daycare to ultimately decide, they don’t HAVE to follow the minimum. Our daycare has more teachers in the 2-3 year old room (3 providers for 12 kids) because they don’t think the minimum is enough

This would be a very hard no for me.

Once upon a time the regulations where I live stated that if a chair or device included a strap/buckles placed there by the manufacturer we had to use them when the child was using it because it was a safety feature. I don’t know if that was universal or if it’s still a rule, but that could be an explanation. If they’re tying kids down during naptime, no.

Using a harness is different from "strapping kids to chairs."

Hold up.

Think about how many times and in how many different ways parents "constrain a child against their will."

-carseat
-stroller
- pack and play
-high chair
- "Bumbo seat" or similar
- booster seat at table

We can talk about whether you want to pay a daycare that puts your child in something with a restraint for large portions of the day. That is fine.

But restraint in general, particularly when used to keep a child safe and out of trouble while attending to another task is straight-up normal.

I could imagine a special situation in which this was used for a specific child who might pose a danger to themselves or others during certain activities. But it should be used rarely.
