In my 50s, work that I love means work that pays me and won’t lay me off in 5 minutes for being too old.

My story is that my definition of "work I love" has changed. I currently have a job with a non-micromanaging boss I like. So far no problems with any higher ups. I have VERY good benefits - vacation time, sick leave, and even a special category of sick leave for caring for dependents. Annual bonuses are good. Hybrid schedule.

I would not say that I "love" what I do. But I am content and hope I can stay here until retirement. That is as close to "love" as I need or want.

Masters in Social Work. I'm a therapist focusing on couples and parenting issues. It's a long transition while you get licensed and some places (large group practices, public agencies) don't pay well. I'm in private practice though, so I have more autonomy and can gradually build up my practice.

I would like my new career to be independently rich painter or photographer. I am completely over working for someone else doing stressful crap for 8 hours a day.
