OP you have been given the advice several times to talk to your manager. This is a very obvious first step, and something you should do even if you believe they can't do anything about it.

Why are you rejecting the idea?

That's messed up OP. Sorry you're dealing with this.

She could be a doctor, nurse, teacher or someone who needs a backup to be able to take off. My parent was a doctor and schedules would come out 3 months in advance. They made her haggle with her coworkers and trade days if she wanted anything off. Leave had to be put in months in advance.

I am a data analyst. I am not well-paid, and my work is not important in any way.

OP described their job above and none of this applies.

If you do, make sure you nor your kid posts anything about the travel on social media and don't tell anyone at work etc you are going.

Are you sure you can't get the college trip on another day? Unless on the quarter system, most schools are out now and that's not the best time to visit because you don't get a good feel for the place.

Also, go ahead and schedule other vacation days.

We don't do social media at all. And no, I got a tour for that day and this is likely where my DS wants to go, and we're not doing many tours. I don't think it's a good message to my family or myself to prioritize this awful job and what they might think over time with family. I actually did schedule another vacation, for which I gave ample notice, and they STILL have not told me if the time is approved (This is for late June), which violates there own policy of telling you within 5 days if it's approved or rejected.

I am completely unable to focus right now and looking on LinkedIn. I rely on this job for health insurance or I'd want to quit right now. It just feels so petty and stupid to "reject" someone's day off like this.

The person who rejected your request is probably some 25 year old paper pusher.

This. If they can’t give you a reason, call in sick.

She said the reason is that she gave less than 2 weeks notice.

OP, instead of fuming, push back on the HR denial of request.

Could be worse my first job we got two weeks vacation two personal days off a year.

We had to put our two weeks in on consecutive days by November of previous years and could not be changed.

The two personal days were emergency use only. Can’t pre book them.

We had sick days but calling in 3 times in one year gets you fired.

My second job had more vacation but we had to book it at start of year.

Leave that company ASAP OP.

Of a company doesn't allow you to use your EARNED leave, then screw them. I'd honestly find a new job and not even give them two weeks notice..I'd just leave and only tell them two days before.

Do you have a copy of the HR manual? If not, ask for it. It seems odd that a 1 day request requires 2 weeks notice.
