I've lived in condos most of my life, but stayed in a detached home for a couple of years. Not sure what's so awful about living in a condo. It was my experience that my condo neighbors were actually more mindful than my SFH neighbors about making noise because they knew we were sharing a wall.

I honestly miss my townhouse. Way less maintenance and more amenities. I had great neighbors too which was really nice. Anyone who thinks not owning a single family home is a failure is an idiot.

Right now I live in a 2/2 condo and it is the exact opposite of awful. It's awesome. Definitely not in Manhattan or Tokyo either.

I live in a townhouse but I loved my condo, would totally go back to living in one if I moved. Not having to do maintenance or clean many rooms is great.

To answer your question, no, it’s not a failure at all. Some people it may be all they can afford, but you can have a perfectly complete life in a condo. And the people that think living in a condo is a failure I don’t think are the type of people you want to have as friends.

I dream of owning a condo one day, we have a SFH that has quadrupled in value, but it seems like weekly I have to deal with things like replacing a sewer line. I just want to pay an HOA and never think about it. Or a tiny house somewhere. I don't see it as a failure at all, people need to MYOB.

Not all people are house people. I grew up on a farm and find nothing special about my owning a house, green spaces, and even animals. I don't even want to take care of a plant.
Make sure you invest the difference you save living in condo. It should make you feel better.
I'm renting right now after owning two condos. Had to sell because we moved. I'm asked all the time why I'm not buying. The question comes from the people who haven't done the math and believe owning is always better than renting. I did the math. Even 30 years of paying rent wouldn't make it up. The difference actually gets bigger favoring renting.
May 12th one of my investment accounts was $98k. One week later it was $123k.
Few people see what one gives up by buying.

Also...finding reliable people to mow lawns is getting to be not so easy. YMMV.

I used to be like the others in your post who thought it was weird for people to live in a condo.

Now that I have become older, I realize that condos are really great They're typically located in much better locations, and there's a lot of amenities associated with them.
