Who pays $70-90k for a car? Or high end brands?

Not us. We buy Hondas.

People have different priorities.

I mean life is a series of choices.

We are paying for an Ivy next year. I was a typical MC kid who was told only in-state, no private universities. I didn’t want my own kids to have that same limitation. Next generation and all…my husband and I do better than our parents.

I was grateful, but always a little upset as a top, top student that was my only choice. We didn’t qualify for aid.

Is it b/c of student-teacher ratios? We've been keeping a chart of school info and, no surprise, the expensive privates have much lower ratios. BC is 11:1 and Tulane is 8:1. UMD is 18:1 and UCLA is 19:1.

Lots of people. It’s why admit rates are 3-5% for Ivies.

OP here - I don't think any school is worth 360K, that's why I'm asking. We know not to expect merit from T25 schools, but are building a diverse list that might include schools that are more financially attractive.

not a SINGLE one offered any merit aid (no matter what their website said). We don't qualify for any need-based FA.

He did write emails to a few schools after acceptance, basically said nicely: your are SOL.

Full-freight $90k/year.

I find you have to go lower, lower---he was offered $25k year for 5 years from a T60 school. And he got into all top in-state schools.

Of course not! Most schools in this tier offer aid only based on need. Everyone merits. The merit is getting in!

I know that. I don’t think OP knows that - hence my post. He’s full freight an Ivy next year.

No no no. The 90K school is not Ivy or even T25. It's more in the 60-80 range, like Tulane or Miami.

Rollins College has some, so does Washington & Lee.

Who applys to "Full-freight $90k/year."

That is beyond stupid for undergrade unless there is a learning disability.

Who spends that? We can afford it but who spends that?

Most of the full rides I’m aware of come from state schools or small schools that arent’ even close to the T100.

My kid got a full ride but it was a state school with specific numbers for merit aid. So yes, it happens, but probably not at a private and highly selective school. Lots of kids as perfect as yours were rejected. You want the status, you pay for it.
