OP, what is your objective? Sending your kid to Georgia Southern as an out of stater, while everyone else there is on the Hope Scholarship, doesn't make much sense if you are in Virginia and could just go to JMU.

Mercer is an option.

GA actually has tons of good popular (to Georgians) colleges for in-state options, for kids who want to stay close to home. Plenty of good private and public college options in GA.

Born and raised in GA and yes it’s true, UGA is hard to get into out of state - and I know several dmv kids who got into Wis and not UGA.

But I’d recommend staying away from ga southern if possible and I even like old sayings like ‘American by birth and southern by the grace of g/d
