Right, OP. Let's add an caveat that if you husband looks angry while also sporting full-face tattoos, that could pose a problem. Similarly if his tattoos are of things like swastikas or say TRUMP 4 EVA across his neck or something, that might also limit his employment options.

Assuming they're pretty normal tattoos covering his arms and legs, it's hard to see this being a problem. It could indeed be an asset.

He would be fine in a florist shop or any other gardening sales space: both plants and tattoos are trendy.

If you’re in DC/MD tell him to check out American Plant! I know a bunch of people of various ages who have worked there over the years and liked it. There are TONS of tattooed employees of all shapes and sizes and somebody with your husband’s training would be welcome (and probably adored by the HS and college age kids who work there).

You are entitled to your opinion. Fact is that bodies or faces covered in tattoos are viewed negatively in our society. They are associated with prisoners and gangs members.

I think a nursery/garden center sounds good and it might be seasonal work which could be good if there is a limit on hours he can work. Once he meets people and starts making connections, he can branch out to self-employment. But for a brand new career and field, I think he needs to work inside the box first.

I don't know where you live, but I was just as a garden center in Olney last week that would probably be perfect for your DH. And there was tons of soil/mulch/gravel that I'm sure they would love having a big guy around for.

Big disabled military guy now puts together pretty floral arrangements is a much more memorable brand image than grandmother named Susan likes to arrange peonies.

Nobody cares about this. Also floristry is an artsy ish industry anyway so I think tattoos are fine.
