We camped at ohiopyle, and passed by falling water on return. Lots of stuff to do there. If you don’t want to camp, look for hotels / cabins in the area.

Agree, this is not a particularly child friendly tour, though by 9 year old enjoyed it.

Depending on how much you want to prepare them, here’s an interesting link: https://fallingwater.org/education/design-challenge/
Plenty of ways to make it interesting by relating brainstorming ideas how they’d design their house
We also combined our trip with some white water rafting

Thanks for the link! My kids would love that. I'm making their uncle do the lessons with them

We stayed at a yurt in Savage River Lodge. It was a nice property to hike around but we didn't have kids yet. Delicious dinner!

After our tour, We had a lovely lunch at Fallingwater (upscale cafeteria style).

And the grounds around the home are very peaceful. Take a stroll, and relax while you are there.

I just mapped it. Fallingwater is 3.5 hours one way. 7 hours total. And you want to do the round trip drive, eat all meals, and tour Fallingwater all in one day? You all are hardcore. I'd never try to attempt that with a 7 year old.

I am big architecture fan and work in a related industry. Fallingwater is very underwhelming. No need to make it more than a day trip. If you need an excuse to get away for a couple of days, I would find a better excuse.
