Tell the young man to hang in there.

You didn’t look like an elementary age student and your parents didn’t send you early. You looked younger and you were sent on time and not held back liked you wished.

Dang it! I forgot that you are an expert on my life! Of course you are right! I mean, I THOUGHT I looked like an elementary schooler (90 pounds, 5'0) but obviously YOU knew better! I forgot to check with you first! AND , back then parents were given a choice and my parents chose to send me early- or so I and they thought! We forgot that you dictate our reality! Give it a rest you narcissistic Massengill container, I was trying to help someone, you were being you

Elementary aged students are not 5 feet tall and if so, they would be quite a bit above average. The would be typical middle school height. DP

You don’t get context, honey. If you did, you would comprehend that it’s relative and to those who weigh less, that would not be skinny.

What possible relevance does that have to anything, that you personally do not consider a kid objectively skinny based on actual statistics to be skinny because your son is even skinnier? It was a transparent effort for you to come in and brag about something that is not brag worthy or relevant, and try to make OP feel bad. Lame.

A 5’6 teen male weighing 115 puts him at approximately 53% points. He is average weight in his age group, not skinny.

My 20 yr old son still can't grow much facial hair and has maybe 5 chest hairs.

There's not a lot you can say, other than assuring him that boys develop physically at their own individual pace and he'll get there. My son was similar, in high school he looked like a boy where many of the others and his sports teammates looked like men -- broad and muscular. As a young adult, he's still slim and while he works out and has added a lot of muscle, he's just not built "big".

Our oldest will be 16 in a few months. He was in the same boat as your son a year ago. All of a sudden a few months ago he started to get taller and taller. In the meantime, we continued to have conversations about his feelings about being “shorter” and also avoiding comparisons and how truly it’s hard to know what everyone will end up looking like (or how tall) in the next year or so. We didn’t know how much more he would grow, so the focus wasn’t on that but more on validating his experience and emphasizing how truly everyone is unique. The home environment and the messages he got I think kept him somewhat confident as he was dealing with “being the shortest…”

Puberty. This age range varies so much. My friend growing up graduated HS at probably very similar stats, it’s a little hard to remember, but he was definitely small and looked young. During college he grew to about 5’9” though, hardly “tall” but his family wasn’t tall and he ended up the same height as his dad.

Even some 18-20 year old college kids still have the “young” look! And I don’t think my husband needed to shave regularly until he was in his early 30s. So your DS will get there. I get that it’s awkward though but unfortunately there’s not much to do.

I get context, sweetie, the context here is just not what you think it is. 115 lbs is on the low end of weight for a 5'6" male, even if some males weigh less, and for you to suggest that it is average is really disordered.

You don’t get context, honey. If you did, you would comprehend that it’s relative and to those who weigh less, that would not be skinny. You are disordered for not being able to comprehend or understand that.
