I did. I took a job in Europe when I was 25 and never returned to the US again to live. I'm now 44. I will retire in a European country where I bought a house.

I was so young when I left the US and experienced many formative life milestones as a young adult and moving through life stages somewhere else, that I really grew to be a different person than I would have been if I stayed and formed a life in my home city/country.

I moved and became a happier person, but my marriage was already solid so that didn’t change much. I was able to work part time and my husband full time but with an incredibly short commute. We are both way more present and less tired and stressed. I exercise because I have time. Our peers are more relaxed and less “what’s your pedigree why are you important what can you do for me” which makes interactions way more enjoyable at things like soccer and school events. Our money goes farther and we don’t have the financial stress like in DC.
