$190 HHI. Drive a 2007 Honda Odyssey and 2001 Toyota Camry. Just bought a 2016 Prius. Feeling very fancy.

I think it is because people in this area are smarter than average and have higher education. They know how stupid it is to dump massive wads of cash into a depreciating asset you also have to throw tons of money towards for maintenance and insurance. Cars are money pits, and many people in the DMV know it.

I contrast this with my buddy in Indiana. Love him to death, but rolled my eyes when he said as soon as he makes $100k he's buying BMW 5 series or higher. Dude has 2 kids too and his wife doesn't have a lucrative career.

It's truly shocking how much Americans across the country are willing to dump into a vehicle relative to their income. I bet there are huge numbers of pickup truck drivers who make less than $80k per year yet drive a $50k+ pickup with a 6-7 year loan term, lol.

2017 Subaru Forrester
2006 Chevy Blazer

Will probably get a new car in the next year or two given how the Blazer is on it's last legs, but we aren't sure what to even think about, although we know it will be electric or hybrid.

I am laughing…one thing that is unique to DC is people drive old cars no matter their income. And take special pride in it! I moved to suburban California and, while it’s impossible to know anyone’s income here, the roads are filled with Teslas, BMW, Mercedes, Huge SUV’s, expensive pick-up trucks, and so on. I miss DC!
