We were VERY impressed with W&M's DFAS! You couldn't ask for better weather too!
Yes! Even my kid who was not excited at all about W&M (and didn't even want to come to DFAS) conceded that DFAS was well done and is now seriously considering W&M. It is now in the top two choices (before, it was #5). The kids there were really awesome.
Same! The Monroe reception Saturday night and Sunday events were so well done. Kids were so impressive. We all fell in love with it. Second Sunday and the market going on today was so fun and busy near the shops.
Zip line over the campus lake and canoes, boats. Students get use of brand new wellness center- free massages, free acupuncture and reiki, meditation rooms. I took the regular tour last year and none of this was showcased.
I don’t think those appointments are free (my kid goes to W&M and loves it).

My DC not going to their admitted student day (not Harvard!) though it looks fun. DC is a recruited athlete so has been on campus including for a multi-day in-depth visit. So we decided to forgo admitted student day. There can be numerous reasons the kids do not go such as distance, conflicting obligations, already-decided etc.

Wait - so all students get free massages??? Or was that just for the admitted students event?

As for people saying you might meet a roommate - I don't see how. The tours were like the tours before applying - everyone stayed in their family group, very little cross talk. We ate lunch as a family. We walked around as a family. Very little chance to break free and really meet people.
At the W&M DFAS, there were social events for students (and parents). Plus, there were a bunch mini-tours where it was easier to strike up a conversation with another student.

We thought DFAS was amazing(even without Monroe), but I can only imagine that the Monroe receptions would have blown people away even more so. Also, some people who were invited to the "you belong" event the day before said that that program was also impressive. Again, we only did the basic DFAS program on Saturday and we just walked away feeling very impressed and welcomed. Loved the clear bags too!
