Just going on the record with the fact that we love SSIMS! 2 kids there currently, one on the way in a couple years. The teachers are fantastic, there's a wide array of class offerings and school activities, Mr. Bilock is amazing. The building is unfortunate, but that's the least important part for us.

What programs will be at Norwood when it finally reopens?

Nah. These are comparable options. I wouldn't hold off on buying a home based on this, unless I had a current high schooler impacted by the Northwoord@Woodward situation. Northwood is going to have a beautiful and modern new building in three years, and has good options for a lot of different kids. Blair is enormous, but very well-run. Both are perfectly fine for your average well-supported college-bound kid.

How is the PTA at SSIMS? Involved? That sometimes can make a difference.

I wouldn't worry about the boundary study unless you're at one of the segregated schools that have low-diversity.

It may be, but I wouldn't expect much change in this area. The schools are among the most diverse and high-functioning in the county.There are also not a lot of realistic options in that area so change is difficult.

Yes, SSIMS and all the other DCC middle and high schools are part of the upcoming Woodward boundary study. No elementary school boundaries are included.

My 6th grader is at SSIMS (previously at SCES) and is having a great time and I echo the post that most of her friends went there from SCES. I have an older child that is now in HS and I can confirm that SSIMS is way improved under the new principal from when my other kid was there. Last year there was a lot of freaking out by parents and I knew a number of other families from other feeder elementary schools were sending their kids elsewhere else instead of SSIMS. 3 of those families that I know are now yanking their kids from the alternative schools and sending their kids to SSIMS next year starting in 7th grade because they realized the alternative wasn’t better and that things have improved so much that it was just really all overblown.
