4.0 UW? How does that happen?? As in each and every course over 4 years of high school?

It is not as well regarded there for top STEM. For Chem, Bio, math , UNCCH is much better. For Engineering, as UNC does not really have it, NCstate is better. However, the top engineering talent in NC HSs usually leave the state and go to T20 unis /GaTech / Mich, and if they have any amount of financial need, they usually pay same or LESS than instate at NC state, for a much better education.
You are describing a situation that is common in every state. Kids with the money and credentials want to go to top privates or one of the top Publics OOS. Comparing to VA, UNC-CH is the UVA of NC, albeit a bit larger and more extensive in its ncoverage of STEM. NC State is the Virginia Tech equivalent. Blah campus though..
Anonymous wrote:The campus seems pretty nice to me…why do multiple people say it isn’t? Are you referring specifically to engineering? Is that located somewhere else than the main campus?

Raleigh is a great city. The campus is average at best. Not surprising people wanting a land grant school look at Clemson and Auburn. For a nearby flagship U South Carolina has a nicer campus than NC State.
UGH USC is ridiculous to do OOS. Job prospects alone this is just stupid financially.
Clemson is only good for Physics they have a great department. However getting into grad school or job after that again not as good as NC STATE.
Yes NC state campus isn't awesome however education is what they are there fore and jobs and internships.
Biggest downside to all of these is instate students are no where near the caliber of DMV students from public HS.

Two of mine went there from MD. Because we used to live in Raleigh and they felt they wanted to go back. They both love sports and intramurals are huge at NC State. They both took PE all semesters. That they loved, LOL.
I will be honest i was not a fan.
Dorms, food, and campus itself yuck period there is no reality that is not true. Football games off campus also sucked.
What was great was internships and job prospects. Changing majors wasn't difficult, most academic counseling was pretty good in the engineering school, not the business school that is awful. Supply Chain is a huge major for Business students. Mine were Electrical Eng/CS double majors. Then one got a graduate Degree in Textiles. Amazing program. What i will say is both got great jobs upon graduation. Both got great acceptances to fabulous higher-ranked schools for graduate work, which DS took advantage of. Both had internships that gave them great references years later. One of mine is 34 now she just became a CTO in Colorado on a reference from someone from her internship from NC State.
Campus isn't far from Downtown Raleigh, getting to airport at RTP is a pain at breaks.
Just like any college it has it's ups and downs. My kids felt they were very prepared for the coursework and maybe had one or two professors during the course of their time there that sucked.
Good luck.
