Seems normal, our school cutoff is Dec 31. So any kids born in the Nov/Dec range will be applying at 16, starting school at 17.

Statistically older students are overrepresented at elite schools.

My daughter's roommate graduated from high school at 16 and began college about a month after turning 17. She is incredibly motivated and is doing great!

+1. My kid turned 18 late first semester of freshman year and found out there were several kids turning 18 even later than that.

The only differences I noticed, they were too young for any first semester abroad programs in Europe (one college admission decision offered a spring start and you could attend community college or a Verto program abroad first semester) and for ghe college they selected I had to sign some sort of waiver form in the orientation paperwork because they were under 18.
