MRI *is not* standard of care for pediatric headache unless the neurology exam shows indications of a red flag.

An mri is standard for headaches and migraines.

That OP’s child is frighteningly violent. My somewhat less violent kid had something going on in his brain. We resolved the issue in the brain tissue and we resolved the problem. The kid needs a complete physical. If I were that OP, I would demand brain imaging.

How did you “resolve the issue in the brain tissue”? Do you mean surgery? I’m assuming that a neurological exam indicated the possibility of a lesion.

My kid participated in the NIH study for anxiety. She had an mri that showed a cyst. We sent the scans to her doctor who was not concerned at all. Fast forward 7 years she was just diagnosed with a brain issue. She had new scans done but we also had the NIH scans sent to her neurologist who said the cyst size
did not change and was not the cause. All this to say is that not all cysts are troublesome and I would work with a neurologist if your child has any unusual symptoms. The NIH scan was helpful since it acted as a baseline. Even though they couldn’t diagnose or treat, they were very helpful down the road and the anxiety study itself was also very helpful. Information is power.
