Range rovers have consistently been bottom of be barrel trash for reliability for like the last 30 years. Just terrible cars.

Lol, our neighbor bought a new one about 1.5 years ago. It's been in the shop probably 2-3 times. I can tell became they're constantly having to drive a loaner. The last fix must have been really long, because they were driving a loaner for what seems 4-6 months.

DP, but Yes, the 1950s and 1960s models were pretty reliable work vehicles, were easily repaired (because of pretty simple construction), and were good off pavement workhorses, although their ride was horrible (e.g., leaf springs for much of that period). At that time, it was not much of a “status” vehicle.

New money. They feel a need to show people they have a high spend rate. Old money are still driving bland looking F-150s, Expeditions, or Broncos.

Ford took over Land Rover around 2000 and for a moment, the quality and reliability improved. Tata then acquired the company around 2008 or so and things seem to have gone downhill with regard to design and engineering.

How would you know? And who cares? Local Land Rover dealer will deliver a free loaner SUV to you and take your car away to be fixed. You don't ever have to actually waste time going to the dealer yourself. Any time your car is in the shop (an exaggerated claim in itself ), you get to put mileage on their loaner SUV.

I don’t know about you, but I keep lots of important stuff in my car - strollers, stuff for the dog, my work items, kids toys, clothes, umbrellas, electronics adapters, all manner of stuff I need almost every day.

The idea of having to move all of it to a service loaner and then back again every time my vehicle went to the shop for more than a couple hours not appealing at all. It’s a major inconvenience.

If you can just hop out of one car and right into another and go on as if nothing happened, I truly don’t understand you. We live very, very different lives.

Reliable, low-maintenance, inexpensive Japanese cars!

They are the ultimate Veblen good. Superficially good, but actually poor quality, high cost of ownership, unproductive, worse than cheaper goods, and on and on.

There are a ton in Chicago. Majority are Lincoln Park and Gold Coast private school Moms. Lots of G Wagons and the large Teslas too.

Do you actually own one? I have a 2019 Sport and none of them (Tysons, Alexandria, Bethesda) do loaners post-COVID, let alone concierge dropoff service to your door.
