A large state school doesn’t magically make a quiet introverted kid an extroverted, exuberant party animal. That said, I think they can do well and find their people at a place like UMD. Once you start visiting different types of campuses your child will get a feel for what they like. I wouldn’t rule UMD out but it’s a very different environment compared to W&M.

I had thought the opposite, that a large school would be overwhelming!

OP here, Yes I am definitely noticing a W&M theme. It was not a school we were thinking of because we are out-of-state, but I will definitely put it on the list to check out!

Many schools mentioned her were also on her list - Rochester, Wooster, Grinnell.

Definitely look into Case.

+1 she sounds a lot like my DD although she was solidly focused on environmental science/biology. In addition to all the schools above, her list included Juniata and Washington College
