Exactly - in real life, people act like they do not care, even though they definitely do.

A few years ago, someone had posted all the admits from McLean and Langley via excel but then it got pulled. I remember it being very impressive.

The only thing that seems tacky regarding these sites is when you have students posting bikini pics of themselves for their profile.

This may be cheesy but I think it's sad the kids don't want to post. Our public high school has a pretty active Instagram account and the kids and parents are pretty great about enthusiastically liking and commenting on everyone's announcements, from community colleges to state U's to selective schools. It's just fun to see their smiling glossy grad pics and announcements after watching them grow up from little kindergarteners. This is one of life's moments to be celebrated - especially for this class that started high school in their bedrooms so pathetically.

I distinguish between (a) overtly boastful posts, which often include bragging about one's various options and (b) an announcement of the student's ultimate decision as to the particular school they've decided to attend. The latter is more like a life announcement akin to the birth of a child, adoption of a dog, or marriage.

Also, I like to see kids proudly wearing their college sweatshirt.

One year the kids running the Instagram account disabled the "like" and messaging features so that the kids getting into Yale didn't show up as getting more "likes" than the kids going to GMU or NVCC. Instead, the kids running the account posted a single message about how excited they were for the student posting the information.

That year a lot of kids posted on the account. Now it's back to a popularity contest again and I see fewer kids posting. Plus they know some adults come on sites like this and disparage the college destinations.

Group mentality. Kids are waiting to see if others do it first.

Most are not at our school.

It was born out of Covid and is slowly fading.

At my kid's Public HS, it is the kids themselves posting and it is easily down 50%+ this year vs. last.

I had no idea that some schools are posting this on behalf of their students.

It's probably less of a thing because people like us on this board are trolling high schools and kids with whom we have no involvement.
