I wonder if the regular Hayfield team is going to be taken over by players from their sus pwc/stafford/dc/md All Star football team? 30+ transfers, surely some play basketball as well.

Talk to the coach. Let him know your son will likely be transferred to your target schools and make sure he has a plan for your kid before you make the move. Do the same thing with private schools.

This. You see it all the time now and it's really concerning. The time of going to school where you live is over (if you want it to be).


I know a kid who transferred from a NOVA public school to one in Richmond just for basketball (goes back and forth on weekends). It blows my mind. I thought AAU was the real way to get recruited to division I schools.


I bet its John Marshall. Its basically a basketball recruiting factory masquerading as a school.

Uh, Madison basketball did have a player transfer in from Paul VI. Perhaps innocent enough.

Mom & Dad having some troubles so separating for a while - and Dad just happens to have apartment in “X” school district… so son going to live there for stability reasons…

Hopefully Mom & Dad reconcile right after playoff season…

I’m not upset. I just don’t think it’s right to slander a coach or a program by accusing them of cheating or working around the rules. They didn’t say any FCPS school, they said Madison does this. When, in fact, they don’t.

This couldn't be more of a bald faced lie. Madison boys varsity basketball team had zero transfers on their roster. In fact, their two most talented returning players transferred out to private schools. The girls team did have one player transfer in during the season from a private school, but Madison was her base school, therefore she was allowed to play immediately. Madison does not even offer sign language as a class. Madison basketball is a very competitive program and the teams are difficult to make, for sure. But please don't just fire off some random crap that has zero basis in reality.


Dude, chill out. It was an example. Replace "Madison" with any other FCPS high school and "sign language' with any other obscure course and you have the answer as to how basketball coaches recruit players at public schools.
