Usually instacart, amazon and other delivery drivers will call you if there is a dog in the yard at least they do with me. I have a dog, and sometimes he gets out or the kids let him out when a delivery arrives (I always try to have him inside). Every time that has ever happened, they've called me and said "I'm here for your delivery but there is a dog" and I immediately bring him back inside. I never knowingly allow my dog in the yard when there is a delivery expected. Who does that?

Yes, I think people should contain and control their dogs. Yes, I think Angie Harmon was a bad dog owner. But to act like going straight to SHOOTING a dog because you feel threatened is a justified action is sick.

Per Angie's version of the story there was no wound on the delivery guy. Shoot a dog if you need to get it to let go of your leg. But shooting a dog because it barked aggressively at you and got close to you? Come on people, this is not reasonable.

+3 I’m fully in support of someone defending themselves from an aggressive dog, but everything I’ve read about this scenario indicates that this was NOT that situation and I’m concerned that it’s more of a case of animal abuse. Without video evidence we can’t know for sure.

This brings to light a very real issue with Instacart, Uber, and all those apps. I’m specifically thinking of Uber teen where they promise a verified driver but who knows who’s actually picking up your kids.

Small dogs can be vicious. This is 100% owner negligence. It is not the responsibility of a delivery person (or any person) to deal with jumping/lunging dogs of any size.

Firmly on the side of the instacart person.

100% the dog was not restrained, or trained, or otherwise improperly controlled by the owner.

She ordered groceries to be delivered during a certain window of time, yes? Then make sure your animal is inside and fully restrained during that time. It's so irresponsible and selfish to leave dogs in your yard and expect delivery people to just deal.

I hate untrained dogs. But shooting the animal is pretty extreme. Carrying pepper spray or a baton would seem to be a better option.

But yes, if you have an untrained dog that will jump happily or get aggressive with strangers, don't let it run around loose when you are expecting a delivery! Also, train your dogs to have better manners and know how to heel and get called off.

TIL all about the "black market" for delivery service accounts. I went down the rabbit hole and I am shocked! Who knew this was even that big of a thing?

There's account selling, account stealing & selling, dormant account takeover & lockout, sub-contracting out with an account (delivery pimping, ha).

I rarely use delivery services because I hate paying the excessive fees. If you use them a lot, do you notice the delivery person isn't the one on the account?

I have encountered this once with Lyft and I refused to get in the vehicle. Lyft support was helpful and told me I did the right thing.

Regarding doorbell cams, half the time when I visit someone, they're not in working order! So I can well believe hers wasn't working.

Why? Different poster here, but it is absolutely true what poster asserts. I love my dogs insanely, but after each one has passed I have gotten another one. It’s not a replacement, but if you love dogs it’s what you do.

Hopefully Harmon will be more careful with stewardship of the next one - and her remaining dog as well.
