Am I wrong for thinking this is completely off base, especially for a public college?
Are you serious? People are allowed opinions, especially in college. College is not actually a safe space to coddle your precious snowflake's perception of the world, instilled by you.
Sorry your feelings got hurt that DD's professor doesn't like your icon Elon.![]()
The test for you sincerity on this, PP, is Would you have the same response of OP’s DD’s prof had made the same remarks about Biden supporters or Bill Gates or Anthony Fauci fans?
If yes—that’s great! I’m all for free expression.
But if your response would have been to come unhinged because “that professor is obviously a QAnon wacko who has no right to be in a position of influence over our kids” then you don’t actually support free expression. You just support free expression that you agree with.

have you never been to college? If a student does or says something stupid, a professor will make insulting comments.
These are adults, not Kers.

No because it is a fact.
Elon Musk is a liar.
He did not invent Tesla.
He did not graduate from UPENN VC bought his degree.
He came to this country and stayed illegally.
There is nothing redeeming about Musk. He is a bigotted dumbass.
The professor gave an opinion so what?
I had professors at UF preaching I survived. I had comp science professors and a psychology professor do way worse.
There is way more to worry about than this.

This means that some things you hear will seem shocking and subversive, and counter to all that you had previously been taught. You will learn to examine, analyze, seek truth, and think for yourself.
It’s entirely appropriate for your child’s professors to express their opinions. Your young adult student is there to be exposed to new and conflicting ideas.

Anonymous wrote:It's not about Elon Musk, people. It's about the professor who went out of their way to make a personal rant, in class, unprompted, about their own recommendation. Calling someone a "douche" is an opinion, but it's an opinion that earns an F in a college where you are supposed to thinking critically and making cogent arguments.
It's early inappropriate behavior, (minor) abuse of their authority position, and mentally off-kilter. What kind of idiot says "I recommend this book, but someone else, who I hate but can't criticize in any objective or intelligent way, also likes it, so maybe you shouldn't listen to my advice?" He's right, but in a performative way as a living warning sign.

OP, a tip for future trolling: Something more specific than "math professor" (maybe "Calc TA"?) would make your post sound more like it was written by an actual parent, plus posters on this board would probably have described the school more precisely than just "in college"--like "at a flagship state U".
A first review of your rough draft can be an excellent opportunity to add the details that'll make all your writing more persuasive!
