Access. Ronna would have still had access to the Trump campaign and the RNC, and it would have been beneficial for the Trump campaign and the RNC as well. They could pretend that it was an arm's length relationship and that Ronna was just reporting the news from a conservative viewpoint.
This was a fascinating total misread of the room by the powers that be at NBC.

Who else are they supposed to have on to represent the R point of view or give insight into what's going on on the R side of things?

They know their stuff. The 30 minute piece Rachel did Monday was based on the research she did for her podcast and book on the Nazi propaganda in the 30s that led to trials for government officials.
