Yes. We entertained more when we built it. We could easily be comfortable in a smaller home if the space was well-designed.

I grew up in a 15 bedroom house around 18,000 sq. feet and knew that as an adult, I had NO desire to be in such a monstrosity. I currently have a 3,000 sq. ft house which is still relatively big for just the four of us.

Once we are empty nesters I absolutely want to downsize. I never had to do yard work or maintenance growing up so spending my weekends doing this after working all week is not my idea of fun. Bigger is not always better in my opinion.

My house is 6200 and it’s too big. We use most of the space, but we really don’t need it. Our last house was 4200 and perfect for our family except location and lack of storage space. We bought the new house for the location and I think we’ll grow into it more as the kids get older.

Our house is 8,000 sq ft and too big. But we like the location and lot.

Once or twice a year when we host 8-10ppl overnight, we use all the space. Otherwise, it’s a waste.

Not PP. But I've never found "cleaners" that do things the way I would do them (and I'm not particularly clean).

My house is only 2500 sq feet and I think it is too large. It's just my DH and me, and I'd rather not have to take care of all of it (even though DH does well over half of the cleaning and maintenance).

I love a big house if the space/layout/flow make sense and it's proportional to the lot. Otherwise, no. Actually, same applies to a small house.

We have 6000+ sq feet and keep the basement bathroom locked so no one uses it and we don't have to clean it as much. We also have a guest bedroom and bathroom that we don't use regularly. We use the other spaces but the master is larger than necessary. I would have preferred 4000sq ft but that wasn't an option.

I lived in 2500 sq ft homes which I know is considered average and I didn’t use many rooms. The bonus room over the garage, the dining room, the kitchen nook, the guest bedroom and bathroom were basically never touched. A 1200 sq ft 2/2 even had a little too much space for me as I never used the dining room.

We have about 6,000 sf. I would have preferred a smaller house, around 3,000, but this house/lot/location were the one we agreed on the most, out of the available options at the time. The more we update it/make it ours, the more I like it. I also WFH so I am home basically all day, every day -- someone is almost always here.

At the beginning, though, it sucked up too much of our weekends with cleaning & maintenance on our own. Twice-monthly cleaners and a weekly lawn service help a lot, it would be difficult to manage otherwise.

I really appreciated all the space during covid. Not being on top of each other with four people home all day helped us keep our sanity. We've done some semi-major renovation/update projects as well, and having a big house means that those not *quite* as big a PITA because you can plenty of space that can be temporarily repurposed, use a different bedroom/bathroom for awhile, etc.
