Did your kid play in this tournament. You can tell easily when a ref is very biased. This was not a tournament that was a little biased. The RU team was fouling like crazy with no calls until they had a point advantage and then the refs started to make less significant calls. We've seen them talking to players on a first name basis at this tournament year after year. It's like the refs were their coaches in the past. One year the referee was hanging out (sitting) with the other team joking around before the game. You can only guess how that game went
This type of behavior tends to be greater for the younger ages teams throughout the travel world, but this tournament is particularly bad. Clubs that don't challenge their teams and accept losing sometimes will never be successful in the long run. You have to lose to get better.

Exactly π check the fields assigned to RU teams.
Also check how RU gets in highest bracket, but the two ECNL teams that beat them during season go in second bracket.
How about RU 09 schedule?
Is the suggestion that they put themselves in the highest bracket and then include only weaker teams in that bracket?
If you looking for good competition, the other bracket was definitely better. If you're looking to win it all, then the other bracket was better. There was definitely home field advantage for RU included the times and dates that they played.
Something was up with the way they placed Bethesda across the board, and maybe you are pointing at it. In the 09s they never should have been in the top bracket. And in the younger ages, the BSC RL teams were also placed way too high.

The Bethesda 09s were put in the top bracket to make it easier for a mediocre team to win. The RI team has declined significant since last year. They continue to be weak. The referees in this tournament also were heavily biased toward RU. This does these girls no good and actually weakens their team. Just look at the overall record of the RU teams as they get older. They become less competitive

Parents... your kids get to have ONE club career before they move to the next level or stop playing... it should be about being fun, developing, learning life lessons, learning how to compete, and having a feeling of being wanted and a part of a TEAM... when did we forget that?
Yep I watch a lot of soccer. What really becomes clear is the players just doing enough to avoid being yelled at. See the defender win the ball and kick it long without even looking down field. They did their job but the sum total of the play is a turnover. No risk, no midfield, inaccurate passing, very slow speed of play. It is just a lot of one on one pushing and wrestling while most of the team watches. Any player with skills and a high soccer IQ is bored still. It is just really bad soccer from u9 to the national team on the girls side.

My kid is on a team that definitely "meh", but I really feel like this does not represent his experience or team at all. We were fairly late going to club soccer (had done rec until 8th grade because he liked playing with his friends), and we've felt like his team is really supportive and he has a lot of fun. He's a defender with a lot of "soccer IQ" and I don't think what you wrote describes him or the other defenders on his team. I wish his team had better strikers and a back-up goalie, as they really struggle when their one good goalie is sick. They are down at the Cup now, and probably won't win but will maybe have a better experience than some of the "better" teams?
My impression of the big BSC system is that it probably doesn't develop good teamwork. It seems like they shuffle the teams every season, sending kids up and down, so I'm sure they don't develop much in the way of teamwork plus they probably all feel like they need to be "the star"so they don't get sent down to the lower level team.
