Yes, unfortunately. Vaping and violence for sure.

My kid switched in 6th. It was the perfect year. She got involved, made friends, and found her place. She is a little more “innocent”and it took a full year to “catch up.”

Advocating for yourself is the biggest switch. Private schools parents usually call teachers or administrators. That’s a no-no in public unless there’s a special need, health issue or bullying. Kids will have to learn to go to the teacher on their own when it comes to assignments.

Try to make a friend or two before school starts. It’s nice to have someone who can introduce your kid around or a place to sit at lunch.

Kids make friends in their classes. There’s a lot of group work. They start text chains so your kid should have a smart phone to participate.

Highly encourage sports or activities. You want to engaged, but not so busy where she doesn’t have time to spend with friends. Good luck!

Yes absolutely 100 percent large public middle schools are locking the bathroom due to rapes.

I haven’t heard of rapes..

But drugs (edibles), vaping, vandalism, bullying, is definitely happening in middle school bathrooms. Ours our locked, except during hall time and then emptied by security when the bell rings.

But drugs (edibles), vaping, vandalism, bullying, is definitely happening in middle school bathrooms. Ours our locked, except during hall time and then emptied by security when the bell rings.

You clearly know nothing about public school. Or the real world.

Most people see a big difference between paper towels strewn on the floor, writing on a mirror, or a broken sink handle, on the one hand, and tweens getting raped, on the other.

Minor bad behavior, left unchecked, usually leads to more.

I would strongly encourage her to join 1-2 afterschool activities, or a sport and an after school activity. Public middle schools are huge and activities were the primary way my kid made friends, especially after switching schools.

Regarding clothing - my best friend's daughter is in middle school and I was going to bring her along to do back to school shopping. She (my friend's daughter) is thriving in her middle school (out of state).

I am the OP of the thread a few weeks ago asking when my tween is going to care about her hair being brushed/shirts without stains down the front. At this point, she does not care.

We have established a skin care routine that really works, but it's driven by me.

Thanks to the MIT mom. We currently have a weekly tutor for math, 1 hour. maybe we need to increase. The teacher is very chill, my child likes her. but it's a relaxed environment.
