Why is it sad that other people.have different preferences? I am not a beach person but I understand and respect that others are. I have actually been surprised as an adult by how much I have enjoyed being in mountains. Different strokes, etc
See, I don't think they "have different preferences." I think they were not properly taught how to enjoy a beach vacation and don't have the fundamental core memories with family at the beach as a small child.

I’ve only met one person who said they were a desert person. They hike the Grand Canyon 4 times a year—in each season.
I’m a beach person. I love the ocean—whether I’m on the beach with my feet in the sand or on a boat or cruise ship. Like Jimmy Buffet sings, “The ocean is my only medication.”
