If you have ever taken a high school theology class at a rigorous school, you would realize your spin makes no sense in context. "We were discussing [Aristotle and Aquinas][ethics][the foundations of the Hebrew bible][the parable as a teaching tool], and it was too pressured, unwelcome, and unscientific." At most rigorous high schools, theology is a very difficult class, so OP might consider a tutor. The reading can be heavy and quite advanced for most freshmen, but getting to a point of being able to handle the material will show growth and really help your son apply complex reading comprehension and analysis skills in other classes. (I don't know if this is how Prep's courses are, but this is our experience).

But, the reality, OP is that a lot of colleges will not consider this grade much if it is poor, particularly because so few applicants will have taken the class, so they will mostly analyze the universal core courses.

I would also look to a school that has a strong learning support program. SJC or DJO perhaps. It might be easier to get into the SJC benilde program as an upperclassman as some students don’t remain in the program all 4 years.
