And there are plenty of actual studies debunking your anecdotes. If you want to rough calculation for a boy's height, it's the mother's height to the father's height in either inches.
Add 5 inches for boys. Divide by 2.

The fact that you adds 5 inches to boys calculation is actually an argument in favor of their father’s height being less important for boys. A son of 5.5 mom and 6.2 dad will have a predicted height of 6 ft
A son of 5.8 mom and 5.8 dad will have 6 ft predicted height as well

In my home country moms were telling their short sons to marry tall women

If dad's height is a must then so is mom's IQ. Find high IQ women scoring in top 1% percentile.

That’s just a rule of thumb.

I have a husband who is 5’8 on a good day. I’m 5’3’.

Our older son is 6 feet tall but our younger son is in the 20th percentile for height so he’s going to be single for a long time, apparently.

My grandfather and DH’s father were/are both 6ft.

Height is polygenic. It’s not directly inherited. I can’t say I gave this a whole lot of thought when I decided to bang DH the first time, but it’s worked out fine.

I think guys have internalized the truism that their options keep expanding up until about age 30 or even older, so they avoid committing to college sweethearts, but in the end they seem to pair off with similarly aged women who are still available, so in retrospect they should have put a ring on it earlier on.

I hate to simplify it to this degree but I think it’s the quality of men. Women are outpacing men in education and careers.

There’s too many men who are permanent children and even if they get an education and work, they still expect women to take care of them (whether it’s mom or their wife).

Women would rather be alone than settle for these low quality options.

People use to settle for whatever they could find in their tiny small town because that was the expectation, find a wife/husband, at any cost.

It was harder to find a partner you wanted to partner with, it wasn't harder to partner because you just took what was left or available no matter if you liked them or not.

Women couldn't buy a house, or get a credit card without a H so yea, they had to marry.
