FYI if you live in Virginia there is no in-state option for a marine science undergraduate degree (VIMS is graduate level). But through the Academic Common Market you could get in-state tuition at University of South Carolina in that degree. No one is going into this field to get rich. But there are decently paying jobs, as PPs have said fed scale jobs are most common.

University of New Hampshire has great undergrad and grad degrees and is in cooperation with NOAA.

University of Southern Mississippi at Stennis Space Center has grad programs in cooperation with the U.S. Navy, trains a lot of officers.

Duke Marine Lab.

U Delaware is a good program.

Also - really explore the difference between oceanography and marine biology. Oceanography is more of a graduate degree, in my experience. (ie, my masters).

Also consider engineering - ocean engineering is a hit field. Acoustics, too.

I have a couple of friends in my field who went to UNC-Willmington.

University of Miami - RSMAS is a great research program.

LSU and Alabama have some good options. Texas A&M.

Like someone else said, don't forget NOAA Officer Corps.

And don't forget U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
