I thought $5 on $36 (4x kids meals) was a decent tip?

No that is not even 15%

It is takeout! 20% tip is for seated service

Just eat plain cheese pizza, so no worries about eating meat. No reason to eat fish if you don’t like it.

My parents used to get fish take out all thru lent. My dad would pickup one order and they would split the sandwich and fries. You are fine OP.

Yes. It is always tacky for an adult to order from the children's menu.

This is what I would do too.

How is ordering food scamming a business?

Some of you people need to lay off the caffeine.

Don't play coy, it's exploiting a business owner to save a few bucks via a discounted children's menu, which is subsidized by higher margin main menu items. In a high-trust society you don't do such a thing. But these days folks really have no shame.

She’s paying for the food, you fool.

She's exploiting a subsidized age 2-12 kid's meal x 4 on a religious holiday. Kid's meals are low margin if not no margin so parents, grandparents and teen kids come in and order high margin entrees, apps, and drinks. If every shameless cheapskate exploited the kid's menu the restaurant would go out of business, you fool.

I'm an adult and often order from the kids' menu because of a serious health problem I have, but I am cognizant of this issue. I would have no shame doing it at a place like the cheesecake factory, but at a local business I make sure to order enough to make up for the loss they are taking on the kids' meal, like appetizers, having my kid order off the adult menu, etc. And I always tip as though I had ordered an adult entree.

A lot of places let adults order off the kids' menu but just make them pay a little extra for it. I think all restaurants should do that so the issue is settled.

Split one adult order and then get 2 kids’ orders.

I have no objection to you ordering from the kids' menu.

But can't you just get something that you actually like?

It's a smaller portion. If we got the adult fish & chips there'd be a lot left over. Nobody wants fried fish and fries leftovers.

Could you get 2 of the adult orders to share?

They’re not losing money regardless. Potatoes are cheap so the FF are way marked up to start with, even on a kids meal.
It’s fine OP

Totally fine on take out.
My spouse and I had weight loss surgery and will quite often share an entree or get kids meals. Haven’t had an issue yet. We have one kid who sometimes gets a kids meal and sometimes an adult meal. ( she’s 11)

I order kids' meals a lot because of dietary issues and I always tip as though I had ordered an adult-sized entree. That said, I generally don't tip 20% on takeout orders, usually more like 10%, but that's a whole nother conversation.

Do you ever get pushback? I've been tempted to do that when portions are so big.

No, surprisingly! I'm always ready to explain why but I've never had an issue.
