A current student didn’t sway the decision.

Generally true for Yale.
But FAQ regarding interview on their website has the following
Is my application disadvantaged because I was not offered an interview?
No. Interviews are not required, and many successful applicants are not interviewed
Yale AO on podcast says Yale apps are put in 3 piles:
1. Absolute yes; exceeds all metrics; maybe a likely letter (will not get interview)
2. Definite no (will not get interview)
3. On the cusp….unsure. Will get interview if interviewers are available in region.
My kid didn’t get a Yale interview either. He was not a #1….
If your kids’ friends with lower stats got interview, I’d assume your kid was not a #1?
But who knows? And lots of Yale Interviewers in DC

The senior interviews are really important. They are really for the kids that the school wants to convince to come to New Haven because they know they will have offers elsewhere.
If your child gets a call for a Yale senior interview, that is a very very good sign.
Anonymous wrote:It is definitely possible to get in to NU with no interview-my DC did ED1 and got in, no interview. They are done by alumni volunteers. The “Why NU” answer seems to be the most important thing to be able to answer (I’m sure true for all college interviews).

Mine had one for NU - DC is applying to the School of Communications for Theatre Arts (with a double in neuroscience in the College of Arts and Sciences) and was paired with an theatre-poli sci alum who went on to law school. Valuable as she was part of the selective National HS Institute for theatre arts last summer for rising HS seniors and there is no way to indicate that (he was well familiar with classmates who had been “Cherubs” as they are called).

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:With most schools you indicate that you want an interview. My DS interviews were all virtual. He’s had interviews with Penn (rejected ED), Syracuse, Harvard and Tufts.
My kid had in person for Dartmouth, Harvard, Georgetown and zoom for Penn and Princeton.

Lol that’s the most ignorant thing I’ve heard recently, especially for Yale.
