Jeff Cup never has enough, they release accepted teams at different times, and if you’re not among the first people to know your team is in and get your block you end up with an unhappy team. Beyond that the distance to fields is an unknown when you’re picking so another reason for parents to be unhappy. Frankly it sucks and I would be all for someone taking over booking hotels.
Yes, though- it’s a total scam. More expensive than just directly booking rooms so the tournament and the housing service can make money. This is the only area where I’ve ever found hotel blocks costing more than regular rates.
We're dealing with the same garbage for a sand soccer tournament later this spring in va beach. The tournament has contracts with certain hotels and you are forced to have to use them in order to play. Really frustrating.

DS is playing in the boys showcase weekend. I was disappointed in our assigned hotel (Hampton Inn) for a few reasons but mainly because it’s overpriced and we are not near most of the team. But now that I read what happened to your team, I’m feeling grateful. We’re just 10 minutes from the field.
