Why is travel soccer a waste in HS? My kids can handle AP classes and soccer. Some kids don’t want AP classes. What works for one may not work for another kid.

I've also seen kids play travel through middle school, then cut that out and play rec and HS soccer (if they make it).

Unless you're on an MLS Next Pro team or something like that, travel soccer in high school just seems like such a waste. What's the point at that point? Ditch the long road trips and take some AP classes.

Brilliant. Bravo.

It's really such a crapshoot. I've seen players from top travel teams get cut, and I've seen marginal House league players make it. I just looked at my HS boys varsity roster and was floored by some of the names.

It wouldn't surprise me if coaches cut some players just to avoid dealing with certain parents. But honestly, I'm not sure what WOULD surprise me.

I wonder at which high schools this might be true?

I have a soccer-loving elementary-age girl who, for various reasons, may or may not ever play travel. I suspect making most FCPS JV teams (let alone varsity) would be a challenge for rec players, but maybe it's not hopeless?

My kids attend one of the bigger HS in FCPS and there are rec only kids on the girls and boys JV this year. 130 boys tried out. So very likely true almost everywhere.

This is absolutely not true. My kid is on the team. I believe there was a rec player last year on JV.

It probably varies year to year but I think PP is pretty accurate.
