DH was making $150,000 at 30 and at 40 is making $465,000 this year (with a $100,000 quota bonus).

At 30 my sister was making $175,000 (give or take) and at 40 she is making $700,000 doing tech sales.

And do you know any teachers who were making $60K at age 30 and $75K at age 40, or has everyone quadrupled their income in that time like your sister? Why even reference her since the question was about you?

This is the problem with the DCUM money forum: it's not outright lying, but it's half-truths, exaggerations, and cherry-picking facts.

Pp quoted here - sorry my sister is my twin so we went through the salary growth exactly at the same time. Obviously she makes way more than I do and experienced exponential growth in a decade.

43-270k

Real estate finance

Changed companies once to increase income after hitting the income ceiling at first company. Wish I had done it sooner.

OP, nobody can answer your original question for you. But your real question - should I buy the lakehouse - you need to consider how often you'd go, whether you'd rent it out when you're not there, what kind of condition it's in, etc. It's not just about your W-2 income going up, it's about the costs and potential income associated with the new property.

If it's in a desirable location, you can probably cover all your expenses and more by listing it on AirBnB.

Age 34: $95,000
Age 57: 165,000

I have been treading water when you factor in inflation.

The big difference is that my 401k balance was around $350,000 then, and it is $1.9 million now. So i feel wealthier even though my income, adjusted for inflation, is the same.

Two earner household.

30yo - $180k HHI
35yo - $270k HHI
40yo - $450k HHI

Our house, which we purchased when we were both 28, wasn’t a stretch then. It really isn’t a stretch now.
