Why such large state schools? Makes no sense if you are full paying. Might as well get the benefit of private school.

We are IS to Michigan so it would be a no-brainer, Michigan 100x over Cal. My kids also have no interest in attending Berkeley either. See how that works? In the meantime, the OP is OOS to both schools, so your comment is meaningless.

LSA Michigan. Expecting to take a "Business Minor" (Ross) w Econ major along w CS/Data Science classes. Admission to Ross is NOT necessary at this stage (at least as we understand it - Happy to be corrected).

The business minor seems offer an impressive number of finance related courses.

Michigan is more expensive than Berkeley oos (Michigan and Virginia are the most expensive oos schools in the country by a long shot), even factoring in increased housing costs after freshman year. Cal has a much better global reputation and is a much tougher oos admit. You hear about Michigan here because kids can actually get in. Michigan is rust belt and California remains the venture capital hub of the world. Go Cal!

OP is OOS. It’s $82-85k per year at Michigan. It rises every year, and some majors like computer science cost a couple thousand more.


Yep, how is Michigan half for OOS?

OP is OOS. It’s $82-85k per year at Michigan. It rises every year, and some majors like computer science cost a couple thousand more.

that's an easy call. Michigan OOS is half at $40K a year. Berkeley (with all of its difficulties) is $80K a year. Go with Michigan and bank the difference, if you have any, for grad school

Sorry, can you specify what programs they got into? Because Finance is in Ross at UofM, but Econ is at LSA. Ross opens up a ton of opportunities, as I’m sure Haas does too, compared to LSA. But if they got in as Econ major, that’s different.
